A Magyar Orvosok és Természetvizsgálók XVI. Vándorgyűlésének emlékérme (Mehádia-Herkulesfürdő)

The Hungarian Doctors and Nature Scientists’ Society and the assemblies were created in order to promote medical and scientific researches. They held roaming assemblies in different cities in the country. They also dealt with studying and safeguarding architecture historical and archaeological records as well since the assembly of Kassa-Eperjes in 1846. The locations of the 16th assembly (16-20 September, 1872) were Mehádia and Herkulesfürdő. This memorial medallion was issued in memory of this assembly. It was designed by Wenzel Seidan. As Seidan died in 1870, it might be doubtful if he engraved the medals of 1871 (Arad), 1872 (Herkulesfürdő), 1874 (Győr) and 1876 (Máramarossziget). Nevertheless, the locations of assemblies had been determined much earlier, thus it was actually possible that Seidan was the designer, as marks refer to that in all cases. On the recto: the Hercules well and inscription "Mehadia 1872". On the verso: the baths of Herkulesfürdő, and a Hungarian inscription meaning "In memory of the Hungarian Doctors and Nature Scientists' 16th assembly".
