A híres parasztköltő eredeti sírját és az elkorhadt fejfát elszántották. Egyedül csak Hézső Pál Szentesi utcai földbirtokos, volt törvényhatósági bizottsági tag tudta, hol volt a sír, így ő mutatta meg a helyet a Tornyai Társaságnak, mely Kriván Ferenc szobrászművésszel készítette el a síremléket. Felavatásra 1936. november 10-én került sor, mert akkor volt 70 éve, hogy Nótás Szabó Pál földi maradványait utolsó útjára kísérték ki a Kis utca 63. számú háztól.

The famous peasant poet's original tomb and the decayed grave-marker were ploughed down. The only one who knew the location of the former tomb was Pál Hézső, corporator and landlord from Szentesi Street, thus he showed the place to the Tornyai Company. Sculptor Ferenc Kriván made the tomb and it was inaugurated on 10 November in 1936, because it was the 70th anniversary of Pál Nótás Szabó's funeral.
