Az 1936-os volt az első olimpiai fáklyafutás az újkori olimpiák történetében. Idén 80 éve, hogy az antik olimpiai játékok legszebb hagyományainak egyike, az olimpia eszmeiségének egyik legkifejezőbb szimbóluma feléledt. A láng az Görögországi Olimpiából indult el a rendező városba, Berlinbe. Az olimpiai fáklya érintette Magyarországot és ezen belül Kecskemétet is, ahol impozáns ünnepség keretében 1936. június 28-án fogadták. A fáklyafutásban 35 Kecskeméti személy vett részt.

In the history of modern Olympics, the first ever torch relay was the one in 1936. 80 years ago this year, one of the most beautiful traditions of the antic Olympic games, one of the most expressive symbols of the idealism of the Olympics has revived. The Olympic flame started off from Olympia, Greece to the hosting city, Berlin. The Olympic torch passed through Hungary, including Kecskemét, where it was welcomed by an imposing festivity on June 28th, 1936. 35 inhabitants of Kecskemét participated in the torch relay.
