A show in one of the smartest London galleries, in the height of the season, in Coronation year, with the personal influence of Mrs. Wertheim at your back. It is quite useless to give shows on a very large scale: people do not do it unless they have a commemorative exhibition of some great artist who is dead. [...] I do not want to rub it in, but I think this exhibition would probably have “made” you, as we call it. And you have thrown it away.”
