Bauer Sándor, a kép készítője; 1946-ban került az MTI-n belül működő Magyar Film Irodához fotóriporternek, majd 1957-től a Vendéglátás magazin munkatársa volt. Több mint négy évtizedes pályájának hagyatéka mintegy húszezer, nagyrészt negatívban fennmaradt fotó.

Az ostrom alatt elpusztult klasszicista szállodasor a Duna pesti oldalán, a Lánchíd és az Erzsébet híd között a hatvanas évek végéig Budapest egyik legfájdalmasabb sebe volt. A Duna Szálló volt az egyetlen, viszonylag épségben megmaradt. Talán ennek is volt köszönhető, hogy a tervezett új beépítés heves vitákat váltott ki. A új szálloda tervezője Finta József lett. Az épület több szempontból is különleges volt, egyrészt hosszú idő után először fordult elő, hogy hazánkban a nyugati tőke léphetett be beruházóként (az Intercontinental osztrák banki kölcsönből épült). Másrészt Finta az állami tervezővállalatok előre leosztott hatásköreibe is bele tudott nyúlni. A hatalmas, 368 szobás szálloda minden szobája a Duna felé néz. A Duna Szálló a bontásáig az építkezés felvonulási területe volt. (hg.hu)

The row of classicist hotels destroyed during the siege on the Pest side of the Danube, between the Chain Bridge and the Elizabeth Bridge, was one of the most painful wounds in Budapest until the end of the 1960s. The Danube Hotel was the only one that remained relatively intact. Perhaps this was also the reason why the planned new construction provoked heated debates. The designer of the new hotel was József Finta. The building was special in several aspects, on the one hand, it was the first time in a long time that Western European capital had entered Hungary as an investor (Intercontinental was built from an Austrian bank loan). On the other hand, Finta was able to reach the pre-assigned scopes of state-owned design companies. All rooms of the huge 368-room hotel face the Danube. Until its demolition, the Danube Hotel was the deployment area of ​​the construction site.
