A Kiváló Vállalat kitüntetést a belkereskedelmi minisztérium adhatta az adott kereskedelmi vagy vendéglátóipari egységnek az évben elért kimagasló teljesítményéért. Esetenként vándorzászló átadásával is járhatott. Az ünnepség maga általában a Himnusz elhangzásával kezdődött amit a megnyitó beszéd után a legmagasabb rangú résztvevő mondott méltató és egyben értékelő beszédet. A következő beszéd az intézmény igazgatójáé volt aki megköszönte a kitüntetést és ismertette a kiérdemelt kitüntetéshez vezető utat és körülményeket. Majd rövid betekintést engedett a közeli jövő terveibe és az éppen folyamatban lévő munkába. A beszédek elhangzása után következett a kitüntetések átadása a vállalat legfelsőbb szintjétől haladva az alsó szintekig (a vezetőktől az eladókig). Az ünnepséget a Nemzetközi Munkásmozgalom himnusza az Internacionálé zárta.
