Eye surgeon dr. József Imre's proposal for the city's first independent hospital, the Erzsébet Eye Hospital was built based upon the plans of builder master Gyula Sándy in 1898. The hospital was built in the place of the Officer Houses in Kapitány Street of Hódmezővásárhely.
