A picture from the photo collection of photographer Sándor Bauer who was the photo reporter of the Hungarian Film Office (belonged to MTI) as of 1946, and the employee of magazine Vendéglátás as of 1957. His legacy is about 20 thousand photos, mainly in negative.

A man is reading the newspaper Magyar Nap. The Rajk law-suit is on the front page. László Rajk was arrested on 30 May, 1949 on the basis of a frame-up. The allegations included espionage and cooperation with the Horthy-era secret police. The real reason for the law-suit was Rákosi's fear of rivals and the escalation of the conflict between the former Hungarian communists and Muscovites (Rákos – Gerő – Farkas). At the time of selecting the victim, Rákosi initially fluctuated between Imre Nagy, who chose a separate path in agriculture, and the popular Rajk, but since Nagy had good relations with the Moscow party leadership, it would have been more difficult to justify his victim. Although Rajk exercised self-criticism, he did not admit espionage. Rákosi went to Moscow for guidance. The purpose of the law-suit was now to emphasize the Soviet opposition to Tito, and Rajk and his associates were accused of contacting the cursed Yugoslav communists in 1948. He was executed in October, his wife was imprisoned and his son got into a childcare institute.
