Nevét tervezőjéről, Charles Garnier francia építészről kapta. Mivel az opera mocsaras talajra épült, dupla alapozással készült, külön érdekesség, hogy az alaprendszerében egy ciszterna található.
Street view in front of the Opéra Garnier with a mounted gendarme. It was named after its designer, the French architect Charles Garnier. As the opera was built on marshy ground, it was constructed with a double foundation, and of particular interest there is a cistern in its foundation.
