A Nemzeti Szálló vendégváró terei, a lebontásáig közvetlen szomszédságában álló Nemzeti Színház közelsége miatt, mindig is a fővárosi színházi élet egyik központja volt. Talán kevesek számára ismert, hogy a máig is kedvelt csokoládés desszert, a Rigó Jancsi megalkotásának helyszíne is volt. Az egykori híres cigányprímásról elnevezett édesség, melyet a szálloda cukrásza készített először a muzsikus kérésére, egy belga herceg feleségének elcsábításának emlékét őrzi. A korabeli sajtó által felkapott és híressé tett kapcsolat reklámértékének tudatában, a cukrász a zenészről nevezte el cukrászsüteményét.

The cake, named after a famous gypsy band leader, first made by the hotel’s confectioner at the request of the musician, preserves the memory of the seduction of a Belgian prince's wife. Aware of the advertising value of the relationship picked up and made famous by the contemporary press, the confectioner named his cake after the musician.
