Introduction "Plans for the publication of this volume were first formulated at a centennial celebration held by the Seminary’s Alumni Association at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York on February 4 and 5, 1980. These plans had the active cooperation of Professor Alexander Scheiber, late rector of the Seminary, who paid frequent visits to the United States."
