A metszeten egy középkori szakácsot láthatunk konyhájában. Balra a nyílt lángú tűzhely, forgatható nyárssal és nagy méretű üst (kondér) levesnek. Elől az alapanyagok halmai fonott kosarakban, vékákban. Mellettük egy mozsár. A szakács másik oldalán boros és sörös hordók látszanak. A fametszet eredetije Marx Rumpolt szakácskönyvében lelhető fel. A könyv írója a mainzi választófejedelem főszakácsa volt, az 1500-as évek második felében. Az általa írt gasztronómiai alapmű - Ein new Kochbuch, szakmai útmutatóként, tankönyvként szolgált az egymást követő szakács generációk számára. A könyvben mintegy 2000 recept szerepel, instrukciók borok készítéséhez, mindez 150 fametszeten illusztrálva (Jost Amman). Érdekességként megemlíthető, hogy a könyvben található a legrégebbi burgonyás recept.
